I'd love to see Thunderbolt get some paint this year, but how cool would it be to retrack it the way Texas Giant is getting redone? Add a nice coat of paint, some metal track and new trains. Run two trains, some seats backwards, add some airtime... Make the old girl into a modern ride LOL....

Oops that was just a daydream. While Im dreaming- how about retrack and smooth out Cyclone, add some more airtime?

How about adding an indoor haunted house somewhere with seated cars? Like where Looney Toons is currently. Scrap those junk rides. Retheme the Wiggles to Looney Toons, and build a haunted house- along the same idea as the mine ride at Canobie? Some fog machines, nice theming....

-Or remove Shipwreck and turn it back into a boat ride, build a new covered building to navigate thru- add fog, strobes, phneumatic figures etc....

Okay - maybe not so economical I guess but its a wish project

Exactly what I was going to say.

An Iron Horse retrack for Thunderbolt is a terrible idea. I'm 60% sure Thunderbolt's getting a coaster of paint this year. They should, however, do the iron horse topper track for Cyclone.

Movietown is quite popular, it wouldn't be sensible OR economical to remove all of it...

Cyclone would be a great coaster to get the Texas Giant rennovation. With some re-profiling, this coaster could become amazing again!

Cyclone would need a major overhaul before steel track could be practical and I doubt you will ever see it happen. Also it can't help it all that much. and definitely not worth nearly 10 million they would be better off getting GCI to build a new coaster.

I would love a dark ride. question is will the new Management fight with the city to add such an attraction . price is not all that high a few million at most unless they get a complicated ride system or go hog wild with the animatronics.

How is cyclone not worth the 10 million dollar overhaul? If it happened to TG then there's no reason why it couldn't happen to Cyclone. They could bring back the old first drop or make it even steeper. Cyclone is one of the main attractions at the park. Just because not a lot of people like it doesn't mean its not a star attraction. Remember when they were vamping Superman into Bizzaro? The commercials around here all showed Cyclone as being the main coaster at the park with Batman and Mind Eraser as the back ups. The park can greatly benefit from redoing Cyclone and honestly its only a mater of time in my mind until they do it.

I think once The Texas Giant opens with minimal problems you will see a lot of parks across the board do this, it's all wait and see to the point if it is a success, I do see Cyclone getting the treatment, It is not that bad of a coaster, Trust me I rode it 100 times this season, I know every nook and cranny of that thing..lol

I think they could bring back the og drop and change a little bit of it and rough out the edges and make it a great coaster again, I remember riding it when it was Riverside, it was a good coaster.

Why do you say that it wouldnt help all that much and where did you come up with the 10 million dollar figure for a smaller coaster than TG?

screaminkid2005 - A 10 million overhaul on any coaster is a loosing investment. It isn't going to pull in a large boost in attendance. So the investment won't ever pay itself off. Yes they could bring back the first drop. the first drop was removed to accommodated the PTC trains not because it was a bad drop. Gravity Group trains and GCI trains would both operate the coaster as is with the original drop returned. So it could be done with new trains and 1.5 -2 million retracking.

Mr Scary - Tx Giant in 7 years newer and better supported the Cyclone. They would have to add further supports. Also Cyclone is much more compact requiring more work and possible sections to be removed to get track into the center of the coaster All that extra work will off set the 1,300 foot deference in track.

I can tell you no one in NE at this point is looking to get a Unicoaster but Chance has three contracted for 2012!

But on topic. I am a dark ride fan. I like to have a mix of rides. I like having some dinner and hit a couple slow rides before getting back to the big ones.

Another down fall with any costly rehab is that is money not going to to other attractions. Just think if they got new trains, re-tracked cyclone restored the drop, spend 3-3.5 million. thats a 6.5 indifference. Thats another coaster, may flats, or best yest thousands of gallons of paint.

While I've never visited SFNE before, it looks like a nice park, and I'd like to see an Intamin looper. Something like Maverick, but more focused on inversions.
