In our never ending quest to ride every coaster in the world (LOL), today was a trip to southern NJ. We started at SFGADV. No new coasters there for us but we can't drive by the park without popping in for a few Nitro and El Toro rides. It was raining at opening which really held the attendance down, at least for the 2 hours we were there. Both coasters were walk on and we rode Nitro 4 times without walking around and El Toro 3 times with walking around only once. Nitro was running very well. However, for the first time ever in the 12 seasons of riding ET we had a less than great ride on our first ride today. We were in the back as usual and it was an extremely bumpy and very uncomfortable ride. We were shocked. We walked around for our 2nd ride, got the back row again but on the other train and WHALAA it was the old ET again!! THANK GOD!!! We were rewarded with an empty station on the return and ride again without getting up. My tip is to ride the train that is branded with KIA ads. Clearly it is the superior experience. I hope they fix whatever is causing the poor ride on the other train soon. The security at the entrance to ET was asking every rider if they had cell phones but there was no frisking or anything.

The next stop was Playland Castaway Cove in Ocean City. This is the park that announced and advertised three new coasters for 2016 and only got one small spinning coaster open last year. Last week they finally opened Gale Force which was the largest of the three. Wild Waves is still not ready but they say July - however they didn't say which year - HA HA!! Whirlwind was nothing special, just another SBF spinner. Gale Force is a LSM launch coaster from S&S Worldwide. They have security wanding every rider to make sure you leave all loose articles in the bins. As for the ride experience, all I can say is Compounce sure made the right decision going with Premier for Phobia instead of this similar S&S version. Frankly, it sucked as the track seemed out of line causing jerks and bumps. Plus, the park is charging $14 per ride!! ONE AND DONE!!

Last stop for the day was Casino Pier in Seaside Heights. Their new coaster, Hydrus, opened last month. It is a Euro-Fighter. It is a bit short, but very smooth. It was easily the best of the three new ones today. The $10 per ride is pricey but more reasonable than Gale Force and a superior ride..

Nice report Ed, i have heard lots of the same reports about gale force being jerky and rough. I plan on hitting it up when wild wave opens, so it could be next year. :)

Was there any signs at gradv saying when battle for metropolis is opening?

We didn't go over that way at all. So I didn't see anything. I am surprised it isn't open yet since it is a clone, so there shouldn't be technical problems as much. I think SFGA in Gurnee had their ride open Memorial Day last year and I think SFOG already has their ride open this year.

We decided to not wait for Wild Waves because Casey is leaving to work at Disneyland in August. With this park having major problems getting coasters open, we figured it will be next year anyhow so we did it now.

Fantasy Island in each Haven NJ is working on a getting a new coaster open sometime this summer, so we can link that with Wild Waves for a trip next year.

El Toro has been bumpy in the back seat since I've started going to the park but its really only in the turnaround. Its because that seat is right on the back wheels. The 2nd to last row is the best seat on the train, glass smooth but still every bit as wild as the back. I wish El Toro was closer to home because its the best coaster ever, I can't get enough of it.

This ride was way beyond just bumpy. That train must have some real wheel issues. The difference between the two trains was night and day! ET is our #2 favorite and we have ridden it hundreds of times with never an experience like yesterday. Yet- the other train gave a ride that was spectacular just like always.

Last year I noticed some pretty severe "pot hole" like bumps on the turnaround and twister section of El Toro. The kicker is it was only noticable in wheel seats. Today, my first 2017 visit, I rode the non-Kia train in the 2nd to last row and had a relatively smooth ride.

In a few years, I do think it will be time for a pretty extensive rehab of everything after the 2nd camelback.
