Wow thats sad. Hopefully there are still at least a few people out there who have the skill and passion to maintain these carousel band organs.

That organ was honestly the only reason I was going to go to Canobie.

With no more organ, a mediocre Yankee cannonball, and new shows for the 5 year in a row, I really don't have a reason to go back.

I'd have to dig around but I would imagine there is a company out there that repairs and may even sell new ones.
it is frustrating. They are at least playing recorded band organ music which some parks don;t even bother. and I would take that over the rock music they used to spew out of Equinox.

Yeah, and lets at least be grateful there are a few parks like Knoebels that still have enough passion to maintain the band organs, let alone three or four in the same park.

Sorry I know it's late, but what were the runners that were replaced? Like are some of the horses not original?

The Runners are the decorative panels that run along the outside of the carousel. in the late 80's the park removed the wood Runners and replaced them with Fiberglass replicas of the originals. Technically many of the horses are not original since the carousel was expanded after Canobie installed it. The original inner horses were mostly original and the outer lower row was added after but unlike many carousels Canobie's is a mixed menagerie as in it operates animals form a number of craftsmen and not jut one like we most often see. All the horses on the ride are wood.

(copied from another post) I didn't get to visit Canobie until late in the season (September) and I am happy to say that the band organ is back (I was told, July) after a first class overhaul. It sounds wonderful. New this year is a single MIDI controller that takes the place of the duplex player piano-type roll system and can play through hundreds of tunes without attention. The roll system typically holds twenty selections and remains in place for historical purposes and also as a backup.

I noticed that the organ's automatic volume control (swell shutters) had malfunctioned again or was disabled and the organ was playing at maximum volume all of the time. Constant maximum volume may be needed soon since a new ride (Ice Jet? aka Flying Bobs) normally equipped with a powerful music system was being installed next to the carousel when I was there.

The band organ is up and running again and sounds amazing. Ice Jets was up and running when I visited a few weeks ago but there was no music. not sure if this will change next season. the ride only has a queue line made of temporary fencing so they obviously aren't finished with the ride.
