    Drop of Doom VR at The Great Escape

    Northeast's First Drop Tower VR Ride Launches at The Great Escape in Partnership with Samsung

    Coming in July The Great Escape gets New Drop of Doom VR Experience Crawling with Spider

    LAKE GEORGE, NY. — April 6, 2017 — The Great Escape, in partnership with Samsung Electronics America, Inc., the “Official Technology Partner of Six Flags,” today announced an all-new virtual reality experience, Drop of Doom VR. The area’s first-ever drop tower virtual reality attraction is a thrilling, immersive encounter that combines the fear of heights and the fear of spiders in one heart-pounding experience that only Six Flags could deliver. Drop of Doom VR makes its debut at The Great Escape in July.

    “As we continue to explore the endless opportunities utilizing Samsung Gear VR technology we can change the content of rides to offer an entirely new experience,” said The Great Escape Resort Properties Park President Eric Gilbert. “We look forward to giving our guests another reason to visit and make new memories at the park this season.”

    Riders, using Samsung Gear VR, powered by Oculus, will become the pilots of a futuristic gunship under attack by mutant spiders. This extreme, interactive adventure features:

    • A high-speed virtual vertical ascent 1,000 feet in the air while teetering off the edge of a helicopter;
    • A 360-degree rotating view high above massive city skyscrapers that are under siege by enormous spiders;
    • A high-intensity gun battle against a giant arachnid, spewing baby spiders that virtually crawl all over the rider’s body;
    • A thrilling virtual 1,000 foot fiery plunge straight down between towering skyscrapers; and
    • The final showdown with a spider the size of a van, teeth-gnashing and in full attack mode.
    For a limited time only, guests will be able to experience the Drop of Doom virtual reality attraction free with paid park admission starting in July. The Great Escape will open its gates May 13, and daily operation begins June 14.

    At media day a couple weeks ago i asked if they would move the vr from minderaser to scream and they said there's no plans to yet.

    Seems like they are spacing them out in half year or so intervals. I'd be surprised if they added it to scream with TGE so close. Not that it can't happen aka Larson Loops.

    I don't understand why they couldn't leave it on Steamin Demon. I think it brought extra people to that ride, not to mention they completely redid the station for it. Hopefully, they will run both towers on drop, that way one can be VR and one can be without

    Before Greezed Lightning, after 2:00, the front of the park was dead. Boomer..er..Flashback, and Sasquatch were near walk-ons every time. Now I'm not sure how big of an impact GL has had because I never spent a full day at the park last year. If traffic is still low, I think it's a smart move.

    With that being said, due to my hatred of spiders, I have no interest in this...even though its fake lol.

    Well their drop tower is called Sasquatch so technically they were telling you the truth. ;)
    I have to agree. Sasquatch is pretty new and a nice attraction Steamon daemon is an aging coaster with little appeal the VR offered something to modernize it.
    I wouldn't go that far. that would be like Swapping out Ice Cream brands and saying they have a new Ice cream shop.

    Lol like what they did with Nathan's!

    This does not interest me one bit. Personally I think VR on a drop tower is stupid to begin with, then there's fake spiders? Nope nope nope

    Haha, that was funny!

    I also have to agree. Though I remembered reading somewhere that around the time Six Flags took over The Great Escape(which I believe use to be called Storytown or something like that), the guy who owned the place said to not take out Screamin Demon.

    Haha, but thing is Great Escape is the one Six Flags park where they get virtually nothing new. Well I mean they are getting new stuff virtually speaking, but they haven’t got any new coasters in so long. The only new ride they got from what I know of is a small inverting flat.

    Wasn't even inverting hahahhaha. No I can't really complain about the new rides. They've gotten more flats than most other parks

    Too funny. You would think they would get it to invert considering Six Flags has other flats that invert.

    Ya, i don;t get the spider either. I could get it if it was something that flew Like an insect. I mean if they were going to do spiders they should have made a deal with ScyFi and had a Lavalantula themed attraction
    The request may have been there but I doubt there is anything in writing that they have to keep steamin daemon. Hell back in eh day they were apparently looking to remove it and replace it with Drachen fire form BGW.
    They have seen a good influx of rides. they have added more attraction lately then most of the park in our area.

    Today is media day for Arachnophobia VR. Note how they changed the name away from drop of doom to arachnophobia.
