I'm really interested in this ride. What was the experience like on it? Was it a good coaster?

As for the building, its in great shape still, they could do some pretty awesome things in that building!

We rode it the one and only time in 2004. It closed a couple of years later. We were newer to the hobby at the time and I admit I do not remember much about the ride. I do remember it being very old. RCDB shows it ran at four different parks starting at Beech Bend in the early 80's. Great Escape was it's 4th home. I wish I could remember the ride and the lighting but I can't. I am sure there are some folks on here that will be able to give you much more about the ride than I can.

There are some pics on RCDB

It says the ride was at Darien Lake during it's six flags years. It too was indoors and called "Nightmare". Six Flags then sent it over to TGE.

    Was it scrapped or sold?

Pretty sure it was scrapped in 2006.

Here was the layout of the ride.

Now imagine riding this in near pitch black darkness, and it was pretty fun. Lines would get insanely long consistently. Wait times got as long as two and a half hours and I remember seasons where they had a reservation type system before the flash pass even came around for this ride. To me, its a shame that they only use that building for a haunted house during Fright Fest and not have a permanent ride in there. I wouldn't have even been mad if the tore down the build and put some flat(s) or a another small coaster there.

The queue, which is still intact, was so well done. Easily one of SF's best theming jobs. It was the little details that were impressive like the Ghost Town train had crossing signals that when it crossed Nightmare's queue, they were old miners lamps that would flash instead of the traditional signals used on the Storytown train.

So much potential with that building/area.

That ride looks awesome!!!! Its a shame they only used three trains. There seems to be a lot of land back there, even if they didn't go for a traditional indoor coaster, something like Verbolten would be crazy. That building seems to be even bigger than Verbolten's. A western themed launch coaster would be awesome. Family or thrill.

I can confirm that, that's what we were told during a backstage tour at ACE Day back in 2013.

I never got to ride.... I remember I finally hit the height requirement late in it's last year of operations. I remember that I wanted to ride but my brother said no because of the wait. And he said we could wait until next year... and next year never came.

I think that area plays a huge role in the park of the future. If they ever want to do any kind of serious expansion it has to go in that direction. Yeah they can add little rides here or there else where, but they are essentially land locked from the entrance back to the comet. they have a little bit of room by the picnic grove, but if you expand out that way you hit wetlands that they can't do much with. So that leaves Nightmare area as the only *real* spot for major park expansion. Not only is that building/surrounding area large, it opens up a ridiculous amount of land behind the flume and even out to the Sand pit. It'll be interesting in the coming years because they've done a very good job of filling in holes and putting in rides in cool spots (Supernova, Greesed lightning.) Eventually tho there will come a time where all the holes are filled and they have to expand somewhere unless they start removing stuff. Obviously with the current way they are adding to this park they might never need more space.

I've spent so much time wondering about that ride. So much time staring at it from the log flume and CB. I agree with MetsFan about the queue, you get a very good look at it from the log flume. It is really well done and there is a ton of stuff to see. That queue area tho has become part of the haunt. I don't think they really dismantled much but they might have hurt the original themeing a bit. I've always wondered bc the queue has always been in good shape since the day it closed. That always made me wonder if they had plans to reuse at some point bc it never got over grown or anything. Up until the haunt open they could literally open up a new ride inside the building and not have to touch the queue. That's how well maintained it was.

Oh well it is kinda sad but that's how amusement parks go. I remember a few years ago before the haunt was added I was on the flume and the huge huge garage door on the back of the building was open. It was alot of storage with a lot of stuffed animals and things. There wasn't much to see. Obviously no ride at that point.

I actually rode this ride at TGE and Darien Lake. There were 4 people in each car. The line was always at least an hour wait, usually longer. From what I remeber it was a lot of fun and it was completely dark inside. I would love to see that building used for something again. Maybe something like Laff Trak at Hershey Park?

It was a fun ride but The lines were long do to low capacity and the ride broke down a lot in it's last few years. I would hit it first on my trips and would often still wait 45 minutes to a hour to ride.

The ride had very good positive G's and some float time. The layout was very good and overall it was very fun. it was mostly dark with a few red and green lights no props that I can recall. There was a trip about leaning forward when you started down the hill the shift in weight would give you a little extra umph and woudl make the ride a bit more intense.

The ride was eventually scraped and it sate SBNO fora while. A shame to loose a coaster but the parks has it's hands full with the ones they got.

It was always closed during the trips I took while the ride wasstill there. I've ridden this model at other parks, but I will always lament that one lost credit.

I was very little when I had the chance to ride this coaster but I remember it being a sub par experience. The line was unreal long and I remember tons of gum on the walls of the queue. Also I remember the building itself letting in a lot of light from cracks in the wall so it wasn't too dark in there. I probably rode it around 2002.

At least this is what my 10 year old self is telling me o_O
