Can we post TRs on here or make a new topic in Trip Reports? I'm going tomorrow! I'm taking my camera on rides because it's a carnival and they don't care.

I figured I'd double post in hopes of bringing some activity to this thread. I went to the Big E after work today, and had an awsome time.

    Food & Drink:
Pot Roast Sundae, Chinese food, Fried Whoopi Pie, Bloomin' Onion, part of a Fried Brownie, and a lemonade.

Rides: (not many, my friend didn't want to go on any -_-)
Mega Drop-1x (my favorite fair ground ride)
Orbiter- 1x (my second favorite fair ground ride)
Some ride like Time Warp- 1x (I went on it because it brought back memories of Time Warp)
Mummy- 1x (how could you hate a pirate ship ride?)

I got out of work late so I got to the Big E around 6. First we got food and I got that amazing Pot Roast Sundae (<3). They are so good, the meat just falls apart. Then we went into the three buildings to look around at stuff, I played the baby grand pianos while my friend watched. Aparently I drew a croud. :?: We walked around for a little longer and my friend wanted something else to eat. He, of course, go the fried whoopi pie and I had some as well. It. Was. So. Good. You can only have one bite or you might have a heart attack, but it is so good. We went back into the buildings and looked for stuff to buy, but we didn't really want anything.

We got a Bloomin' Onion which was terrible. The inside didn't even have fried batter on it and the outside began to shed its crust. Not worth the 20 minute wait. Finally, I got to go on the rides. My friend didn't want to go on them(yet another reason to go alone) but I bought 22 tickets and went on some rides. The first was a ride like Time Warp and it was awsome. I miss that ride so much. I sat next to a guy who said he went on Time Warp before and then we just talked about Six Flags for the ride (yes, I made friends on all the rides I went on). Next I went on Orbiter. It is an amazing ride. Again, I sat with some kid, but we didn't talk. You are pinned to your seat on the ride the whole time while you are spinning and it's crazy. It's like Rodeo, but you are vertical, spinning controlled, and you are pinned to your seat which is what makes the ride.

Next I went on the obligatory fair ground ride, the pirate ship (Mummy). Back seat gives the best floater air at the top. The girl sitting next to me kept screaming when we came out of our seat. I laughed. After the ride ended, me being the nice and considerate person that I am, suggested she go on Mega Drop, the free fall ride. As expected, she declined. Finally was my favorite ride, Mega Drop. It is better than Scream. I don't care who you are or what your opinion on drop towers is, it is better than Scream. The brakes finally catch you when you are about 40 feet above the ground and you stop about 3 feet above the ground. You fall for what feels like an eternity and are finally caught. It's fantastic. Something that you would never find on an S&S, even though they are much taller (Mega Drop is only 120ft).

After that we played some games (I got a banana) and went back into the buildings to look at stuff. I played the pianos again (I wish I had a baby grand, they sound so amazing) and apparently drew another crowd. We walked around for a little longer until we were picked up. One of my two big regrets were I didn't get to go on the big yellow slide, and I didn't get to see a cover band sing one of my favorite Journey songs, Any Way You Want It. I listened to the band throught the gate and they sounded amazing. Better than the current Asian singer does. I have a video of the audio with a visual of shrubs. I'll post that with some pictures soon.

Wierd Christmas walk through thing. It had a lot of Christmas trees with lights.

Walking into Gate 7. I love the view.

Effing amazing pot roast sundae. Mashed potatoes, corn, gravy, and pot roast that falls apart. <3

Size doesn't matter. My number 1 fair ground ride.

Carny Time Warp. This one they don't slam the restaint into your thighs, so I actually got some great air.

I'll just post what I did on Facebook. This hot tub was sold, but I decided to touch it anyway. I wonder how the owner will feel about me touching both their hydrogen and oxygen...

If you haven't been to the Big E, I highly recomend it. It is a day trip for sure. There are so many things to look at and do, a lot of shows, and fun rides. I recomend going on a week day. It's less busy and you can buy an unlimited ride pass, which is a great way to get on a lot of rides. Oh, and I almost forgot...

I love fried lasagna. I'm going to try to go back again but this time of year is crazy at my work and I work every weekend. I still have 9 ride tickets left and I don't want to waste them! That's 2 rides on Mega Drop and 1 left over (which can't get you anything, BUT 2 RIDES ON MEGA DROP!)

^You should go! It's definately a full day trip. There is so much to do. The majority of the rides are great, if you go on a week day you can buy a wrist band to go on as many times as you want, there are so many shows, a crap load of stuff to look around at in two separate buildings(if you're the kind of person that likes to look at small things to buy), and animal building with goats and horses and stuff, amazing food, some New England nostalgia, and a big yellow slide. It's actually takes about 5 minutes less to get here than Six Flags. I'm only recomending it because it only comes once a year.

I like the Big E. Wouldn't be caught dead on those rides. Went on one called the Avalanche (few years ago) and the OTS restraints where held together by duct tape. Then the Orbiter they didn't even give you safety info so I almost go my fingers chopped off by the moving panel you where on (and someone vomited their curly fires on the ground). Last good band there was Foreigner. Bax and O'Brien, local radio show, made a great video last year. They made a great point to, nothing really changes, they even made a joke and said "oh wait, I think that stand moved 2 inches to the left". It used to be really good, no it's disappointing. And if you don't have enough cash it's even worse. had chocolate covered bacon there once, really good. State houses are awesome tho.

awesome trip report! You absolutely nailed it!

I live so close to Six Flags, thus I am very close to the Big E as well. I get season passes to both. I also echo what you said about their drop tower! Its a bit scarier too when you consider that this thing is trucked around the country and in the back of your mind you hope that it gets serviced and checked regularly as it is dropping you alarmingly close to the ground

In the Connecticut building, chocolate covered bacon is a big hit this year for some people though I am not into eating pig fat. Where is the deep fried lasagna??

Gotta check out the trailer with the bears in it...over in the back by the big yellow slide... Impressive to see fully grown bears in a double wide trailer playing with tires, stumps and each other.

Oh...check online to see if there are any available spots on the Mardi Gras floats...if so buy a tciket. Its pretty cool to throw out the mardi gras beads. One of the bigger thrills you will have- It sounds stupid...but trust me on this one!
If there are no open tickets for purchase, for a day you are going, pm me the day you will be there and if I am there that day, I can [possibly get you on a float if three of my friends who drive the pull vehicle are working that night. If I wont be there, line up 15 minutes before the parade starts by the shed next to the huge canopy that houses the floats...the workers in the shed are often looking for extras to go on the floats- Seriously- try this- it works!

The Big E has always intrigued me but I have never been. I have never been a huge fan of fairs but this seems to be a bit different.
